Sometimes u-green,sometimes uOrange!

Remember these guys? Well if you are in your mid to late 20’s you should. Trompies had a hit on their hands with the song “Madibuseng” , meaning to give back in seSotho. The song is basically about a moody woman, but patriarchy aside it was a jam. I owe a lot of childhood December memories to the catchy lyrics and insane beats from this iconic group that definitely paved the way for the Kwaito music scene in South Africa.

They even featured Lebo Mathosa on one of their biggest hits and even listening to their songs today makes me feel like I’m back in Gugulethu eating watermelon with my cousins. Can you imagine?

Aside from their music, I liked the way they embraced “kasi life” through the way they dressed, overalls and spotties(bucket hats); they were the original cool kids. Can we take this moment to salute these award-winning crew for years and years of entertaining us.

Have a listen to my favourite song : Madibuseng.
