The Autmn/Winter 2017 collection from Cape Town based designer duo Margot Molyneux pays homage to the stylish woman and features pieces that are suited to all body shapes.
The collection gets its name from Moroccan city of Marrakech, Mara and inspired by the curved silhouettes and entwined structures of North Africa’s Ksar architecture, and the rich, vivid colours of the modern culture that surrounds this ancient world.
Model, actress and activist Qiniso van Damme stars as the face of the campaign which launched in June. Photographed by Travys Owen, the images feature a perfectly poised Qiniso, in a home setting, wearing the versatile pieces from the collection. The Margot Molyneux team wanted to do something different with this collection by making it all inclusive, offering a cohesive collection that extends into “plus” size, a rare feature when it comes to our growing South African retail market. Margot and team enlisted some “real women” to model the clothes on the site which makes it more appealing but also highlights how important diversity is when it comes to channeling customer experiences. Having been part of the group of women photographed on the day, I must say it is incredibly special to feel like designers are starting to cater for the greater part of the demographic.
The collection itself isn’t a major departure from the already established brand that specializes in minimalist clothing with soft and flowing sillhouettes but their approach to incorporating trends whilst still remaining classic is a trait that makes the items in this range so timeless.
